Jake has worked for the WAWM Recreation Department for three years as an umpire, summer SAFE camp, REX the mascot, various volunteer events, and currently Action 330 at Irving Elementary School. He is a senior at Nathan Hale High School. Outside of work, Jake holds a second degree black belt and has been doing karate since the age of four. He also participates in the theater program at Central High School. After graduation, he plans to pursue a degree in secondary education.

What do you enjoy most about working with your programs or for the W.A.-W.M. Recreation Dept.?

I love being able to help my kids at work. Whether it's settling an argument with their friends, or learning how to tie a tie the right way, I always try to make sure the kids know I am there for them if they ever have a problem.

Above anything else, I love making the kids smile. At the after-school program, I help the kids to leave whatever happened at school behind, and enjoy their time at Action 330. During the summer, I have no idea what's happening at home, so I try to make sure the kids at camp have a safe, fun, and exciting place to come to every day. And most of all, when I'm in the mascot costume, not many people know it's me, so I can be as crazy and fun as I want, and it makes everyone smile! Plus, for me, going to work is never a chore because no two days are ever the same. I always love working with the different grade levels and running a variety of fun activities."
