This community event is to unveil the results from the RAD Goes All IN(clusive) Project which took place in April of 2025. The goal of this fundraiser was to raise $3,000 to purchase a universal changing station to make our building more accessible for, not only the RAD participants, but their peers in the disability community. After the final tally, the RAD participants and our community were able to fundraise $6000 to surpass their initial goal.
“Thank you to everyone who helped us reach our goal of raising money to help make our building more accessible for everyone,” RAD Participant Mykayla K. said. “We love making our building inclusive for all our friends.”
During the RAD Goes All IN(clusive) event, the participants completed a total of 321 laps around the indoor track and made 1,610 baskets. In comparison, RAD participants' performance skyrocketed as they accumulated 150 laps around the indoor track and made 900 baskets in 2024.
"It is a proud moment to continue to see our participants have the desire and drive to give back to our community,” Adaptive Recreation & Inclusion Specialist Katie Lindgren said. “They have the passion to make our building accessible for ALL because they want everyone to be able to enjoy our space as much as they do.”
“We also know that we can’t do this by ourselves,” Lindgren added. “We are grateful to our community who donated their time, money and services to make projects like this possible."
One community organization that the group would like to highlight is Michelle's Action Angels Community Outreach who provided a generous contribution of $2,000. Michelle’s Action Angels was founded in memory of Michelle Gildersleeve, a former student and participant in both the WAWM School District and the WAWM RCS Department. Their generosity honors Michelle’s legacy by directly supporting the installation of a universal changing table, a vital step in making our Recreation Center welcoming and accessible for all, ensuring everyone can participate with dignity and comfort.
We invite you to come out to the Recreation Center located at 2450 S. 68th Street for this exciting celebration and unveiling event on August 14 from 1-3pm. If you have any questions, please contact Katie Lindgren at [email protected] or call 414-604-4935.
