The Kindermarket is a holiday craft fair where the kids are the sellers. Youth entrepreneurs are encouraged to sign up to sell their holiday crafts or cards, friendship bracelets or other handmade items to the public on the day of the event. During the event, crafters learn first-hand about business while selling their handmade items and learning how craft fairs operate, all while having fun in a safe environment.
This event garnered much praise following the first-ever Kindermarket in 2024. Program Manager Maggie Obst was awarded her first Silver Star Award in Youth Programming with the WAWM RCS Department presented by the Wisconsin Park & Recreation Association (WPRA). Award winners are selected annually by a distinguished panel of recreation professionals who have expertise in the field of recreation service delivery.
“It is an honor to be awarded a WPRA Silver Star Award for this showcase of our amazing youth participants,” Obst said. “We could not have done it without the amazing children who lead the show with their creativity and holiday spirit.”
“We are thrilled to bring this event back for a second year,” Obst continued. “After the wonderful response last year, we’re excited to continue offering a space where our community can come together and support our amazing youth creators, and highlight their achievements this holiday season."
Currently, there are 33 youth vendors signed up to share their handmade items with our community. There are still spaces available for youth entrepreneurs to sell their unique crafts, so please contact us for more information.
We are looking to our community to help positively impact this event. Whether you’re looking for a holiday gift or some more decor for your house, our kid crafters have everything you need for a perfect holiday season! The event is from 6:30-8pm at the Recreation Center which is located at 2450 S. 68th Street. Please note: only cash will be accepted for purchases.
