Fitness Center General Policies

WAWM Fitness CenterIn the spirit of positive recreation and fitness pursuits, the West Allis-West Milwaukee Recreation & Community Services Department is dedicated to providing high quality experiences.  To achieve this, we ask all WAWM Fitness Center members to adhere to the following:

    • Headphones/earphones are required for personal use. For safety and security purposes, please maintain an awareness of your surroundings and those around you.  No amplified music is permitted.
    • Refrain from any activity or exercise that may damage facility floors, walls, or equipment or create unsafe conditions.
    • Hallways and corridors must remain clear and safely passable.
    • The WAWM Activity & Fitness Center is part of the West Allis-West Milwaukee School District.  State statutes and school board policies prohibit the use of alcohol, tobacco, tobacco products, e-cigarettes or vaping devices.
    • Wisconsin State Statute 948.605(2)(b)1r, prohibits anyone, including licensed concealed carry permit holders, to carry a concealed weapon on school property (grounds or parking lots), 
    • Outside personal training not associated with the WAWM Activity & Fitness Center is prohibited
    • Members are expected to exhibit appropriate and respectful behavior at all times.
        • Members shall
            • Show respect to all participants and staff.
            • Refrain from harassment which will not be tolerated.
            • Refrain from using foul, derogatory or disrespectful language.
            • Refrain from causing bodily harm to other members or staff.
            • Show respect for equipment, supplies and facilities.
    • Food and drinks (other than water and sports-related drinks in covered bottles) are not permitted.
    • Attire
        • Clean, appropriate athletic attire is required at all times. Attire must cover the chest and buttocks.
        • Clothing with profane language, and/or offensive content are prohibited in the facility.
        • Closed-toe, non-marking, activity-appropriate footwear is required; street shoes, boots, dress shoes, and sandals are not allowed; please bring a change of footwear.
        • During the winter months, please bring a change of footwear while working out.
    • Bags
        • Small gym bags and small back strap bags are allowed on the Fitness Center floor.
    • Please re-rack weights after use.
    • Please wipe down equipment after use.
    • Membership FOBs and day pass FOBs are not transferable to family members or friends.  Lost FOBs can be replaced for a fee of $1.
    • Maintain personal hygiene that is healthy and inoffensive.
    • Please help us to keep the center safe and clean.
    • Use voice, language and behavior that will not offend or disturb other participants or staff.
    • Immediately report all injuries and incidents to WAWM Activity & Fitness Center staff to initiate an incident report form.
    • Comply with any direction from the WAWM Activity & Fitness Center staff and follow any other rules that they deem necessary and appropriate to provide patrons a safe, healthy, and welcoming environment.
    • Failure to comply with staff requests, directions or instructions will result in loss of privileges. No refund of fees will occur in such instances.
